Automatic emergency braking is an active safety system that activates the car's brakes when a potential collision is detected. It can also increase braking force if the driver is applying the brakes, but not enough to prevent a collision. All AEB systems can detect vehicles, and many can also detect pedestrians and cyclists. The purpose of AEB is to reduce collisions by engaging the brakes in a dangerous situation or when the driver is not braking enough.
